I actually have a lot more interest in Adolescent Health Promotion now after I have completed this course. Now I feel like its a lot easier to impact adolescents than I initially thought at the start of he class. I have truly enjoyed the experience of designing, planning, and implementing the workshop. This class is truly different from other MPH classes I've taken as it focuses on feasible short term workshops rather than long-term interventions. I would recommend this class for all MPH students in the health promotion track.
I am hoping to take what I learned in this class and conduct health promotion workshops for adolescents this summer in Bahrain. My older brother actually works in the Youth Division of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and generally conducts photography, painting, and science workshops all summer long. I've already been talking to him about the potential to engage these youths in health promotion... looking forward to seeing what happens.

Buck's Final Personal Reflection
I don't think that my response has really changed since the beginning of the course. I still think that the adolescent years of a person's life are some of the most important for establishing good habits. Often there aren't any constructive means for conveying good information and we had a great opportunity. So, the phrase "Adolescent Health Promotion" interested me in that we were going to be able to be a part of that time in a group's life.
I think that this classed helped me in two ways as a health professional. First, I realized (and was informed at a couple of different times throughout the course) that one should always be prepared for just about anything. I thought that Christina and I were going to be the only ones to present, but I was certainly not going to be able to do all of the parts of the workshop since we were all responsible for different parts. Also, the participants did not respond the way I would have liked while we were doing the opening activity and while I was presenting the section on condoms. Second, I have learned that I should know my information more. Again, I really only focused in on condoms and did not put as much effort into knowing the other methods of contraception. This might have stimulated me to ask more questions of the group, and I would have been able, I believe, to keep the conversation on task.
I don't really know where I go from here in terms of working with adolescents. I certainly hope that I can continue working with them somewhere in the future. I did spend some time during college volunteering for Boys and Girls Club, and while most of the time was spent tutoring, it is still a good platform for talking about other issues and providing them with good information which will equip them for making good choices. So, perhaps I can become more involved with that, although I am pretty busy right now.
